Beautiful Mykonos,
Greece
Overview:
You
could go on and on about Mykonos' history and place in
Greece, but just let it be said that Mykonos seems to be
the epicenter of Greek tourism. It offers excellent
beaches, wonderful shopping for fine things, great
restaurants and bars and above all, a free spirited
ambiance that doesn't exist anywhere else on Earth. I am
not sure how anyone could improve on Mykonos'
infrastructure.

Mykonos
enjoys excellent Mediterranean weather and the official
currency of Greece is the euro.
Cruise
Port Location and Information:

Docked in Mykonos,
Greece
Cruise
Ships dock in the main port for Mykonos, which is only a
mile or so from the entrance to the main village.

The Ship in
Relationship with the Village
While
you are quite close to the city of Mykonos, you ship
will provide a shuttle that will take you to the drop
off point to enter the city. You should take this
shuttle , as the road that transits from the port to the
city is quite narrow and there is no shoulder to walk
upon. It simply isn't safe to walk it.
Exploring on Your Own:

Walking into Mykonos
From the Shuttle Drop Off Spot
Mykonos
is best explored on your own because the city itself is
made up of narrow pedestrian street just begging to be
explored. The shuttle will drop you in a large parking
area where other buses operate from and you can easily
see the city just beyond.

Almost
immediately you start to fall in love with Mykonos' laid

Even
before you depart the shuttle drop off area you are
exposed to Mykonos' charm. To get into the city, just
follow the pedestrian pathway that follows the beach
towards Mykonos.
Shopping Tips:

Mykonos Shopping Street
Mykonos
offers world class shopping for jewelry (especially
gold) art, beach wear, clothing souvenirs and myriad
other products.

Mykonos' Shopping at
its Best
One of
the really wonderful things about shopping in Mykonos is
that the shops and boutiques sometimes stay open until
midnight. While there are a few main shopping streets,
the best way to find the best deals is to wander
throughout the city finding smaller shops that reside on
the side streets. It is a ton of fun exploring Mykonos.
Port
Highlights:

The Windmills of
Mykonos
Built
in the sixteenth century to take advantage of the
constant winds found at Mykonos. Today, they are more
representative of Mykonos than providing any functional
use.

The
windmills are a reminder that you are in a very special
place.

Trails Lead Everywhere
As one
explores the meandering streets of Mykonos and the
various trails connecting one are to the next, a feeling
of how past generations must have done exactly the same
thing is evident.

Little Venice, Mykonos
Little
Venice is a well known section of Mykonos and was once
the area the fishing captains used to live. The houses
were built right on the water's edge and offer an
ambiance not found anywhere else. Today numerous bars,
restaurants art galleries and other entertainment venues
create a perfect scenario for romantic and exciting
evenings. If you are in Mykonos for sunset, hear over to
Little Italy and find the perfect bar to enjoy it along
with a glass of wine or two, or maybe some ouzo, the
local Greek specialty.

Whitewashed Buildings
and Flowers
Mykonos'
real beauty lies in its unbelievable architecture and
sub tropical flowers that abound everywhere.

A Mykonos Paved Street
Even
the streets are hand made in a way that adds color and
flavor to simply walking down a shopping street. It is
as if artists designed Mykonos to please visitors.

A Public Restroom
As a
word of advice, the public restrooms in Mykonos are not
like the ones that we are used to. I would strongly
suggest bringing some supplies with you just in case you
need to use the public facilities.

A Beautiful Mykonos
Beach
If you
finished exploring Mykonos Town and want to get some R &
R time, just grab a taxi across the island to one of
Mykonos' fabulous beaches. We enjoyed lunch at a
restaurant right behind this beach and had a wonderful
meal. There are beaches for every persuasion on Mykonos.
Off the
Beaten Path:

Delos Ruins
The
island of Delos is one of the smallest in the Cyclades
but was said to be the birth place of Apollo and dates
back centuries before Christ. Delos is considered by
some to be the most important ruins in the
Mediterranean. Delos is easily reached by negotiating
for a small boat to take you the few miles across the
passage between Mykonos and Delos. The local tour
operators also will offer numerous daily trips to Delos.
The ruins at Delos are extensive and interesting.
Dining
and Drinking Suggestions:

The Ocean Front
Restaurants and Bars in Little Italy
Many of
the restaurants and bars throughout Mykonos are small
family run operations that may only have 3 or 4 tables.
For this reason, one is best to spend time exploring
restaurants, not only for their menu, but for the
overall ambiance and consistency with your desires. A
great place to start looking is in Little Italy. You may
well find an ocean front restaurant that serves
excellent cuisine with an ambiance like nothing that you
have experienced before. In Mykonos, dining is about the
complete enjoyment of the meal, not just the food.
Must Do
List:

Beautiful Mykonos
Yes, if
you miss spending every minute of your time in Mykonos
doing whatever you want to do, you are nuts. Do not go
back to the ship for lunch or dinner, just enjoy Mykonos
and have fun.
