One of the Beaches at
Monterosso al Mare
Monterosso is quite
different from the other four villages. First, it offers
wonderful white sandy beaches that everyone enjoys. The
village of Monterosso also has a "beach town" feel to
it.
There are really two
separate areas of Monterosso, the new area and Old Town.
To get to Old Town, one must go through the tunnel.
Shops and Restaurants
in Monterosso
Monterosso also has a good
number of hotels, shops, restaurants and bars. There are
several that are located right on the sand that offer
outside decks.
Typical Monterosso Shop
While Monterosso is
certainly worth a visit, especially if you want to get
some beach time in, it lacks to quaintness of the other
four villages.
Monterosso is a beach
destination for many Europeans and as such, can be very
crowded during the summer months.
To return to the ship,
take the train from Monterosso back to Riomaggiore and
connect o either a direct train to Livorno or connect to
the train to La Spezia and then a train to Livorno. Once
in Livorno, either take a taxi back to the ship or grab
the #1 bus to get back to Livorno if your ship is docked
right in the inner harbor.
