The Cannes Film
Festival
Overview:
Cannes
is best known for the Cannes Film Festival, but it is
also a wonderful city full of excellent restaurants,
shopping, museums and of course, the beach. Cannes
enjoys perfect Mediterranean weather and is perfect
every day during the season. The euro is the official
currency of France.
Cruise
Port Location and Information:

Cannes, France Yacht
Harbor
Ships
anchor off of Cannes and tender into the yacht harbor
right next to downtown. You may see Easy Cruise Lines
docked right at the harbor when you tender in, as this
is one of their port calls. The tender wharf is only a
short walk to the entrance to downtown.
Exploring on Your Own:

Sand Sculpture On the
Beach at Cannes
Cannes is easily explored
on your own and this is the best way to do it. As you
depart the harbor turn to the right and follow the
street to the beach area. The streets that run
perpendicular to the beach will lead you into the old
section of Cannes.
Shopping Tips:

Cannes Shopping Street
Once off the beach you
will be treated to a maze of pedestrian streets that are
loaded with shops, boutiques, department stores and
designer clothing stores. Be aware that shopping is not
inexpensive here, but if you are looking for high
quality, you will find it.

More Shopping
Opportunities
The
entire area has wonderful and unique stores selling
everything imaginable. Look for designer products,
perfumes, lingerie, wines, cheeses, specialty candies
and so on.

Many of
the women in the designer area wear high heels and
designer dresses to go shopping in and give an air of
sophistication that one normally does not see in a beach
community.
Port
Highlights:

Ahhh, Cannes Beaches
Cannes
is a beach community before anything wlse and enjoying
the beach doesn't require much effort. While there are
some museums,
Villa
Rothschild a restored villa from the 19th century that
Cannes operates as a tourist attraction and the famed
buildings that house the annual Cannes Film Festival,
most folks are content to spend the day shopping,
enjoying he beach and having a relaxing luncheon either
in the old section or on the beach at one of the French
restaurants.

Sand Sculpture Close Up
There
are always artists on the beach sharing their unique
skills. You can see the amazing detail on this sand
sculpture. The promenade that meanders alongside the
beach is wonderful for walking and people watching, as
well.
Off the
Beaten Path:

The Beach at Nice
Cannes
is connected to both Marseille and Nice via train and
both are easily visited from Cannes. However, spending
the day in Canes is recommended unless you have been
there and are looking to visit someplace that you
haven't been. The train station "Gare de Cannes" is an
easy ten-minute walk from in front of the building that
the Cannes Film Festival is held. Simply walk north on
Rue des Serbes and you will run right into it. It is
very convenient and the eastbound train will take you
all the way to Menton (just passed Monaco) and the
westbound train to Marseille.
Dining
and Drinking Suggestions:
You
simply cannot miss in Cannes. All of the restaurants
that line the beach and the boulevard are simply
excellent. Just find the one serving what you are
wanting to eat and enjoy.
Must Do
List:
I would say that
spending the day enjoying Cannes' beaches,
restaurants, shopping and overall unique character
would be something not to me missed.
